ArcGIS Pro

ArcGIS Pro System Requirements

ArcGIS Pro is a Windows-based software. It cannot be installed on a Mac. If you are a Mac user and need access to ArcGIS Pro software, please refer to Software Access Options for information on alternative ways to access the software.

If you're using ArcGIS Pro for academic, research, or teaching purposes:

Contact the ITS Help Desk if you experience any installation issues.

  1. Download Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime (x64). The file you need to download is located in the right column of the download page. The version number may differ from the following help page, so just look for .NET Desktop Runtime (x64). This file needs to be installed on your computer before you run the ArcGIS Pro installation wizard.

  2. Sign into Brandeis ArcGIS Online account to activate your ArcGIS Pro licenses. Once you've signed in, you will be auto-licensed for ArcGIS Pro Advanced and multiple extensions.

  3. You can download ArcGIS Pro software from Brandeis On the Hub or from your Brandeis ArcGIS Online account. The download link in Brandeis ArcGIS Online can be found by completing the following steps:
    • Click your ArcGIS Online username (located in the upper right of the screen), then go to My settings.
Click your username, then select my settings.

    • Click Licenses (left sidebar menu).
      Licenses

    • Scroll down your list of licenses until you reach ArcGIS Pro. Click the Download ArcGIS Pro link to download the software.
      Download ArcGIS Pro

  4. Once you've installed ArcGIS Pro, make sure that you update ArcGIS Pro to the latest version.
  5. Follow the ArcGIS Pro / Duo troubleshooting instructions if ArcGIS Pro shuts down after authenticating with Duo.
  6. Install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 Redistributable driver if you want to use Excel files in ArcGIS Pro.

If you're using ArcGIS Pro for administrative purposes:

Brandeis has two ArcGIS Online instances, an academic use site and an administrative use site. We use these sites to provision software licenses to Esri products. If you are using Esri software (e.g., ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, etc.) for administrative purposes, you'll need to contact our GIS Librarian to receive an email invite to our administrative use site. Once you receive an email invite, you'll be able to sign into our administrative use site using your Brandeis credentials. Your administrative use login will be what you use for all Esri products (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, StoryMaps, etc.), so you may need to sign back into ArcGIS Pro after you receive an administrative use account to ensure you're using the correct license.

Administrative uses of the software include: facilities management, field operations, campus safety, asset management, student recruitment, fundraising, emergency management, etc.

ArcGIS Pro and Duo Sign-in Bug

Issue
ArcGIS Pro software abruptly shuts down after completing multifactor authentication with Duo.

Solution
This is a known bug with Duo multifactor authentication and ArcGIS software. When you sign into ArcGIS Pro (or other Esri desktop software), you'll need to use the "Sign in using Browser" option instead of trying to sign into the software via the default pop-up window.

This help page from Eastern Washington University that shows where you can access the "Sign in using Browser" link. Once you use the "Sign in using Browser" sign-in method, the software will default to using the browser sign-in option and you shouldn't experience this bug again.
