Creating an ArcGIS Group Space

There are three types of group spaces in ArcGIS Online:

  • Read-only groups
  • Shared update groups
  • Any organization groups

Group privacy settings can be adjusted so your group space is only shared with:

  • Group members
  • Anyone at Brandeis
  • Members of the public

Read-only Groups

All Brandeis ArcGIS Online users can create an ArcGIS Online Group and invite ArcGIS Online users at Brandeis or other institutions to the group. Group members will have read-only access to content shared in the group space.

Shared Update Groups

Current Brandeis students / faculty / staff can request an ArcGIS Online group from our GIS librarian. Groups with update/editing capabilities are restricted to ArcGIS Online users at Brandeis. This type of group space can't include outside collaborators. Please submit the following information with your request if you would like to have an ArcGIS Online group space with editing/update capabilities:

  • ArcGIS Group Name - This could be your research topic, your first names, etc.
  • Names of people who should be added to the group - Note: We can only add people who have signed into Brandeis ArcGIS Online.

Any Organization Groups

Outside collaborators can be invited to a Brandeis ArcGIS Online group if their organization has an institutional subscription to ArcGIS Online. Groups with outside collaborators are limited to read-only access.
