The ribbon toolbar displays a base set of menu options for all projects. Additional menus will display as you add new layers to your project or click on existing layers (e.g., Clicking the basemap layer in the Contents pane will enable the Vector Tile Layer Appearance menu).
The Map Canvas displays all of the layers that you’ve added to your map. You can create 2d maps and 3d scenes within a single ArcGIS Pro project. Each map/scene that you add to a project will display in its own tab.
