Student Quick Start

Overview

Badges are digital awards that show you have completed a task, learned a skill, or reached a goal. You can earn badges in online courses and store them in a badge backpack to keep track of your achievements. Badges include details like what you did, who gave the badge, and when you earned it. They are helpful because they:

  • Show your skills and learning
  • Help you track progress
  • Motivate you to reach goals
  • Can be shared on LinkedIn, résumés, or portfolios

In order to share earned Moodle Badges on social media and other services, Badges should be transferred to a learner's own personal portfolio or digital backpack. The guides below describe ways of transferring earned badges to both integrated and 3rd-party digital backpacks.

Note: All the links on this page will open in a new tab.

How To

Moodle is integrated with Badgr, the original backpack solution. The following describes how to add Moodle Badges to a Badgr portfolio.

Sign up for Badgr:
  1. Go to https://badgr.com.
  2. Click Sign Up.
  3. Create an account using your personal email address and a password. Do not use your Brandeis email.
  4. Important: Do not use Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or other social sign-ins—Moodle requires a manual login using email and password.
  5. Verify your email address by clicking the link in the message sent by Badgr.
Add your Badgr credentials to Moodle:
  1. Log into Moodle Communities.

  2. Open Preferences in Moodle: In the top-right corner, click your profile picture or name, then select Preferences.

  3. Access Backpack Settings: From the Preferences page, click on Backpack settings.

  4. Select Backpack Provider: In the dropdown menu, choose Badgr.io as your backpack provider.

  5. Enter Badgr Credentials: Enter the email address and password associated with your Badgr account.

  6. Save and Connect: Click Save or Connect to begin the connection process.

  7. Verify Your Email: Check your email for a verification message from Badgr. Click the link in the email to confirm and verify your account.

  8. Check Connection Status: Return to Moodle and ensure the backpack is now listed as connected.

To add a Moodle badge to your Credly profile, you'll need to use Credly's "Add badge from another provider" feature and upload the badge file.

  1. Download the badge.  Visit the My Badges page in Moodle Communities and download any badges you'd like to connect. Community Badges.

  3. Log in to  your Credly account and navigate to your profile page. Sign up for Credly.
  4. Add the Badge: Choose "Add badge from another provider": Select the Upload Credential link and select the .png file you downloaded from Moodle.
