If you have questions about using Endnote, you're welcome to schedule an appointment with a member of our library's Endnote Help Team or email our team at researchhelp@brandeis.edu.
EndNote is a commercial reference management tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share research.
1. Download and install EndNote from the ITS Software Page. (EndNote is free for currently enrolled Brandeis students, faculty, and staff).
2. Register for a free EndNote online account. This will allow you to access your library online and share libraries with other EndNote users.
3. In the EndNote desktop app's preferences menu, set it to sync with your new EndNote account.
EndNote 21 is the most recent version of EndNote.
If you (and your group if you plan to use EndNote for collaborative research) are new to EndNote, we recommend using EndNote 21.
If you are joining a research group that uses EndNote, you will need to download the same version that your collaborators are using..
Note about X7/X8/X9: These versions are not be compatible with some newer operating systems and software. If your group is still using X9 or older, we recommend upgrading to a more recent version.
Avoid saving EndNote libraries to shared network drives (i.e. Box, Google Drive, Dropbox). This has been known to corrupt EndNote libraries over time and may cause them to stop working suddenly. Newer versions of EndNote are designed to sync libraries to the cloud at endnote.com, as long as you and your team members each have an account (separate from your Brandeis account)
Zotero is a free alternative to EndNote that the library also supports. Check out our Zotero guide if you'd like to learn more.
