Searching for Maps & Atlases at Brandeis

You can use Library OneSearch to search for print or microform maps and atlases at Brandeis. Try searching with the following subject terms:

  • Aeronautical charts
  • Atlases
  • Cartography
  • Early maps
  • Gazetteers
  • Guidebooks
  • Historical geography -- maps
  • Maps
  • Maps in literature
  • Names, geographical
  • Nautical charts
  • Topographic maps
  • World maps

Search Tips:

  • Click the "Advanced Search" link in OneSearch to see additional search options.
  • Use quotation marks around your search terms to search for them as a phrase. For example, searching for "topographic maps" will return search results with that exact phrase.
  • You can use the search facets listed under "Refine My Results" to limit your search results to a particular resource type: e.g., books or e-books, maps, microforms, etc.
  • Use the "All OneSearch" tab to expand your search results to include maps from a number of other institutions' digital collections.

Call Numbers for Maps, Atlases, etc.

Interested in browsing our library's collections at Brandeis? The majority of maps, atlases, and gazetteers are located on Goldfarb Level 3. Look for the following call numbers ranges or use Library OneSearch to browse for items.

G1 - 922: Geography (General)
G100.5 - 108.5: Toponymy (inc. gazetteers)
G1000 - 3122: Atlases
G3160 - 3171: Globes
G3180 - 9980: Maps
GA101 - 1776: Cartography

NOTE: Oversize materials (+ in front of the call number) are shelved separately from the regular sized materials.
