Interlibrary Loan (or Resource Sharing): Request items from my ILL account

Login to Interlibrary Loan or WorldCat. How to use these services. Policies.

How do I submit a request from my ILL account?

If you already have a citation, you can login into your ILL account and fill out a request form manually. The blank request forms are found under New Request on the left hand side of the main ILLiad page, just choose the request type (article, book, microfilm etc) that you need.

Fill out your requests forms carefully; incomplete or inaccurate citations can cause extra delays. If you know the ISSN/ISBN or OCLC number please include it, because this speeds up processing.

Add text in the NOTES field if you have any additional information about your request:

  • This is especially helpful if you are requesting rare, old, unusual, or foreign materials.
  • If the item you need is part of a multi-volume set, don't forget to list the volume(s) you need.

IMPORTANT:  If you are requesting material owned by Brandeis but which is checked out, missing, lost, please tell us in the NOTES field on the request form before submitting the request.

Don't forget to click Submit Request when you are finished!

On the Web

A lot of older materials that are in the public domain (pre-1923) have been digitized and are available via the Internet. No need to request via interlibrary loan as you can access full-view documents directly.

Check these web sites:

Hathi Trust - as Brandeis is a partner institute of Hathi, you can access thousands of full-text downloadable pdfs of digitized book and journal content from the partner library collections. This includes both in-copyright and public domain materials digitized by Google, the Internet Archive, and Microsoft, as well as through in-house initiatives.

Internet Archive - access books digitized by Brandeis Libraries and other institutions as part of the Open Content Alliance
