DMS Plan Templates for NIH funded Research Proposals

New Pilot: Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan Templates for NIH Funded Research Proposals are Available for Brandeis PIs to use

Brandeis is participating in a Pilot sponsored by the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP), which is a cooperative initiative among federal agencies and several universities. The purpose of the FDP is to reduce the administrative burdens associated with research grants and contracts.

The aim of the Pilot is to evaluate DMS Plan Templates that have been designed by the FDP and NIH.

New templates are available for Brandeis Investigators to use!

Brandeis encourages its PIs to use the new FDP templates.

The templates are available here:

  • Option 1 is a prescriptive template designed to limit the need for free text entry. Make sure to download and open with Adobe Reader or a similar  program.
  • Option 2 aims to provide detailed prompts as well as more options to include free text responses as necessary.

Even though Brandeis encourages its PIs to use the new FDP templates, PIs may also continue to use the DMPTool or existing agency compliant plans.

The Pilot will begin March 1, 2023 and extend through February 29, 2024. The FDP will share the results of the pilot with colleagues at NIH for their use in finalizing the NIH DMS Plan Template to be incorporated into future NIH application packages.

What else does a PI need to know:

Please complete a quick survey rating your experience using the template.

Brandeis and the FDP strongly encourage PIs, who utilize one of the pilot templates in their competing submission to NIH, to complete the PI/researcher-focused Qualtrics questionnaire to provide feedback on their experience.

By participating in the Pilot, Brandeis and its PIs will provide meaningful and impactful feedback to affect the final NIH DMP template which will be incorporated into NIH application packages.
