What is Compilatio?

Compilatio is a plagiarism detection tool designed for instructors and students to check papers for originality. It allows users to compare texts against a vast database of online sources, previously submitted papers, and various academic publications to identify potential instances of plagiarism.

1. Begin by navigating to your course and adding the assignment activity.

   

2. Within your assignment settings, scroll down to the bottom and click the dropdown for Compilatio plagiarism plugin.

   

3. On the “Allow suspicious tests detection with Compilatio” select Yes from the dropdown menu.

   

4. From here you will see a number of settings that you can customize yourself. 

   

5. Below is a list of the different settings and what they do:
   1. Analysis Start - You have two options:
      • Manually, which means all documents will need to be triggered manually to start the analysis process. (For this example I selected Manual)
      • Scheduled, which means you can assign a date in which all documents will be scheduled.
   2. Show suspicious texts score to students - this is the percentage of the submission that may be potentially not be authentic. You can select
      • Never - the score is never sent to the student
      • Immediately - the score is submitted as soon as the student submits their assignment
      • When Activity Closed - the score is sent to the student once the activity closes
   3. Show Analysis report to student - This report give a breakdown on what parts of the submission wee plagiarized and the location of the sources. You can select
      • Never - the score is never sent to the student
      • Immediately - the score is submitted as soon as the student submits their assignment
      • When Activity Closed - the score is sent to the student once the activity closes
   4. Add documents into the Document Database - You have the option to add documents into the database. The documents will then be used as comparison material for analysis. You can either select Yes or No.
   5. Limits - You can then select a percentage for the threshold of suspicious text. As shown in the example, I am using 10% for Green and 25% for orange. This means that anything that is less than 10% plagiarized will be highlighted in green and anything that is more than 10% but less than 25% will be highlighted in orange. Anything higher will be outlined in Red.
6. When you are done making the changes, select Save and return to course.
7. When you are ready to run your analysis, start by selecting the assignment you created and click view submissions.

   

8. Once you are routed to the submissions page, you will all the students and their submitted assignments. Navigate under the file submissions heading and you will see the Compilatio emblem and a button called analyze. Click that to begin the analysis of the paper.
